New Moon Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius

The New Moon joins her brother the Sun @ 12˚16’ Sagittarius. New Moons are about new beginnings, initiating change and taking action. Eclipses are about magnifying that energy. When a Solar Eclipse occurs, the Moon travels between the Sun and Earth, temporarily blocking the Sun's light.

Eclipses tend to cause sudden and abrupt shifts. They may not necessarily be welcome, but they are necessary for our personal and communal development. They activate the lunar nodes (the highest and lowest points of the Moon’s orbit where she intersects with Earth) wherever they occur in the zodiac. In our natal chart, these nodes are often referred to as the Nodes of Fate.

Two weeks ago, the Lunar Eclipse officially launched the two-year Scorpio/Taurus axis, while this December 4th Solar Eclipse officially marks the end of the Sagittarius/Gemini axis. This means that with the shift from the mutable fire/air axis to the fixed earth/water axis of Taurus and Scorpio, the world can finally begin to sort through the charred remains as they break ground to rebuild.

If you combine the power of the eclipse with Sagittarius energy, this is a terrific time to:

  1. Travel or make the arrangements for a trip in the future, or do whatever represents freedom to you. This could mean starting a side hustle towards financial freedom or starting a prospective retirement. Don’t forget, after Sagittarius comes the action-oriented Capricorn. Whatever plans you put to paper, Capricorn will help you get it out into the world.

  2. Enroll in a line of study you’ve always been curious about. If you’re not sure what that is, go to the library and stroll through the aisles to see what captures your eye.

  3. Look for opportunities to gain wisdom, purpose and meaning. Connect with your mentors, parents, or elders. Remain open to signs and moments of sudden insight and inspiration. Be ready to receive the gold nuggets which come from observing the everyday, like watching squirrels play outdoors or children in the playground.

  4. Give back. Sagittarians are most generous, always the first to volunteer their time or donate to a worthy cause. Pay it forward, it always come back.

  5. Laugh, have fun, take a risk or two. At a time of year when energy tends to be low because of holiday planning and other stressors, this is a great time to channel your inner Sagittarius. Forget all the hustle and bustle and go skating, or tobogganing. Build a snow fort or snowman in the backyard or try your hand at snowshoeing or skiing.

  6. Be optimistic. Sagittarius is a fire sign and although he can lean towards impulsivity, his faith that all will work out is contagious. Make out a list of gratitudes and keep adding to it every day this month (and beyond). Whenever you get the winter blues or feel down or despondent, re-read your list for an instant energy boost in a more positive direction.

“I’m a Sagittarius, and one of our major qualities is that we’re blindly optimistic, I love to travel, I’m always up for adventure but also always want something new. Sagittarians are really independent, and we like our space. We’re drawn to love but battle for that need for independence.” – Taylor Swift, Singer, Songwriter & Sagittarius
